“Siempre Luchando por Nosotros.”

Omodamola Williams es un líder comprobado que realmente se preocupa por la comunidad, la familia y dar voz a las personas. Residente de Gaithersburg y activista, es miembro de la junta de numerosos grupos de defensa en el Condado de Montgomery que abogan por cambios legislativos para todos nosotros.

Who Are You?

Who am I? – a father first, a neighbor second, and a community advocate overall. As a concerned father and activist, I am deeply invested in ensuring our children grow up in a city that offers the best opportunities to succeed.

Gaithersburg is a city with immense potential with much work to be done. Our working-class communities deserve better equitable access to economic opportunities, affordable housing, and safe neighborhoods. I am committed to addressing these disparities head-on and advocating for policies that every resident will benefit from.

Gaithersburg's elected body should be reflected in all of its constituents. I want safer streets, afforabdale housing, and development that brings our community together. I plan to bring city codes and regulations up to safety standards.

My passion in advocacy brings a voice that's often unheard in our city. I helped fight for Rent stabilization to be approved county-wide, and it's time for the renters of Gaithersburg to have rent control established. I've worked for the Department of Public Works, was part of the planning team for the Community Justice Academy initiative, served as president for Young People for Progress, worked as the community organizer for the Montgomery County Racial Equity Network. I have direct policy experience in improving conditions for everyday people in our city.

After losing my job and home, I know what it's like as a single parent to check into a shelter and start all over again. This political path is my calling to serve better in my own city.

It is vital to have someone such as myself, a community activist, be part of the city council.

What Issues Do You Want to Address?

Equitable, sustainable communities where access is universal are crucial for a thriving city. Unfortunately, too often, certain communities are left out of the planning and decision-making processes within our city. It is imperative that we have individuals in government who are willing to collaborate with these communities.

The most pressing issue facing our city is the need for open government. Transparency with elected officials and a clear understanding of the city's implementation plans are essential. It's crucial that tenant associations, business owners, and community leaders have a meaningful voice in these meetings to drive our city's progress. Achieving this requires embracing the principles of open government.

Additionally, I appreciate the beautiful walking paths our city offers, but there are instances where these paths lead to literal dead ends. To enhance these paths and improve safety, I propose the installation of street lamps along these routes. Furthermore, we should work towards making these paths fully connected and accessible, eliminating any dead ends. This will ensure that residents can enjoy these amenities more effectively and safely.

What Are Your Visions for the City?

Having citywide festivals that celebrate our community's diversity, showcasing cultural traditions, music, art, and cuisine, fostering a sense of belonging among residents.

Developing youth leadership programs empowers young residents to take an active role in shaping Gaithersburg's future, instilling a sense of pride and ownership.

More community art projects to engage and inspire residents in creating public art installations, instilling a sense of collective ownership and pride.

Creating more interactive online platforms that allows residents to share their ideas, concerns, and proposals for city improvements, encouraging active participation and engagement.

Civic education programs to inform residents about local government, how it works, and how they can get involved. An informed populace is more likely to be engaged.

Protecting and serving our Gaithersburg community.
